Gmail access required for the core product
DraftAhead requests gmail.modify when you approve Gmail during new account signup or choose Connect Gmail for an existing account. This is the narrowest Gmail permission that supports DraftAhead's user-facing workflow:
- Read message content and metadata to classify threads, learn a compact writing style, identify follow-ups, and prepare relevant replies.
- Create, update, apply, and remove only DraftAhead-owned Gmail labels.
- Create reviewable Gmail drafts and remove DraftAhead-created drafts during cleanup or reconciliation. DraftAhead does not modify drafts you created independently.
DraftAhead never sends, archives, deletes, or marks messages as read. Generated drafts start in Gmail for you to review and send yourself; DraftAhead-created drafts may be removed during cleanup or reconciliation. DraftAhead does not request the broader mail.google.com permission.
Calendar access is separate and optional
DraftAhead does not request Calendar permission during signup or when you connect Gmail. If you later chooseConnect Google Calendar in scheduling preferences, Google separately asks you for calendar.readonly. DraftAhead then reads your calendar time zone and free/busy availability only to suggest open times in a scheduling draft.
DraftAhead cannot create, change, accept, decline, or delete Calendar events.
How Google data moves through DraftAhead
- DraftAhead fetches the Gmail thread needed for an organization or drafting feature you enabled.
- DraftAhead sends only the relevant content to its managed OpenAI service for classification or drafting, with provider-side storage disabled.
- DraftAhead writes the resulting DraftAhead label or reviewable draft back to Gmail.
- If Calendar availability is separately authorized and enabled, DraftAhead may add verified open times to a scheduling draft.
Google user data is not sold, used for advertising or credit decisions, or used by DraftAhead to train a generalized or shared AI model. OpenAI is a service provider in this flow; the transfer is limited to delivering the DraftAhead feature you requested.
What DraftAhead stores
DraftAhead stores an encrypted Google refresh token, Gmail identifiers and metadata, classifications, preferences, operational history, and an encrypted copy of an active DraftAhead draft while it is tracked for edit learning. Raw message bodies are otherwise discarded after processing. If you separately enable evaluation capture, thread snapshots are encrypted when you correct a Gmail label or review a recent classification in the dashboard. Examples expire after 90 days and can be exported or deleted sooner.
Your control
You can turn Calendar-assisted drafting off, disconnect Google, disable evaluation capture, delete captured evaluation examples, or delete your DraftAhead account. Disconnecting attempts to revoke the Google token and deletes DraftAhead's stored mailbox data. You can also revoke DraftAhead from your Google Account. See Data Controls for step-by-step instructions.
Google Limited Use
DraftAhead's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. The full legal disclosure, retention terms, human-access restrictions, and contact details are in our Privacy Policy.
